Welcome to the Village of Ruidoso's Forestry Department.

The Forestry Department's mission is to address Ruidoso's forest health challenges and to protect this community's values at risk to the hazards of wildfire.

The Community Forest Management Plan directs the department with three main charges:

1) Implementation of a suite of Village Ordinances, enacted in 2002, that address forest health, abatement of risk to wildfire, and site development on 13,000 acres of private lands.

2) Implementation of fuels management strategies on 700 acres of public municipal lands.

3) Host and facilitate the Greater Ruidoso Area Wildland Urban Interface Working Group.  This group of federal, tribal, state, and local agencies and entities have developed goals and objectives in a collaborative framework to protect and maintain the areas values-at-risk since 2000.

Director - Rick DeIaco; Forestry Technicians - Eduardo Saenz and Eric Annala; and Forestry Office Manager - Kathy Richardson can be contacted at (505) 257-5544 or by email at rickdeiaco@ruidoso-nm.gov, eduardosaenz@ruidoso-nm.gov, ericannala@ruidoso-nm.gov or kathyrichardson@ruidoso-nm.gov. The Forestry office is located at 421 Wingfield Street and is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

A summary of required Fuels Management Standards (tree thinning) apply to both residential and site development requirements.  They can be viewed at Fuels Management Standards and a glossary of terms at Forestry Terms.
